New Guinness World Record Press Release
New Guinness World Record Set in Dubuque, Iowa
Dubuque, IA – NOVEMBER 14, 2011- The Guinness World Record for Person Wearing the Most T-shirts at One Time has been reclaimed by the USA. Tom Rauen, owner of Envision Sports in Dubuque, Iowa became the nation’s latest Guinness World Record holder on Friday, November 11, 2011.
“I chose to challenge this record because my family business is primarily t-shirt printing and I thought it would be a good fit,” Rauen said. Rauen broke the Guinness World Record at Mojo’s Sports Bar at Diamond Jo Casino in Dubuque, Iowa.
Tom Rauen trained for months to prepare for what he expected might take 2.5 hours or more. Although time has nothing to do with this record, Rauen’s team helped him put on shirt #247 after just an hour and forty-five minutes. The last shirt was a Size 20X, and was large enough to cover a queen- sized mattress. Three past world record holders in this category have been from the USA.
“Tom was determined to break the world record of 245, earned by a Croatian just last year,” Todd Moyer, Diamond Jo Casino, General Manager said. "It was great to be a part of bringing the world record back to the USA."
"Tom's achievement was exceptional and a testament to what Guinness World Records stands for in his determination and the desire to achieve something extraordinary," said Philip Robertson, adjudicator with Guinness World Records. "With the aid of a hardworking and dedicated team, Tom pushed himself to establish a new benchmark in a competitive record category."
Rauen sold each shirt that he used to break the world record and donated proceeds to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Rauen has two brothers who were diagnosed with Diabetes at a young age.
“Helping raise awareness and funds for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation was an easy decision for me,” Rauen said. “The fact that we were able to raise awareness for JDRF and donate $5000 feels great!”
